Agriculture & Food Security

Liz grew up in a farming family on the Shore and later worked as farmer advocate in a Farm Service Agency-funded program. She knows firsthand the challenges farmers face and the importance of protecting Virginia’s agricultural future. Liz will support state-level programs that strengthen local food systems. Agriculture is not only one of Virginia’s largest economic sectors,  it is a matter of food security, long-term environmental health, and regional identity.

As your Delegate, Liz will support:

  • Promote local food systems connecting farms to schools and markets.

  • Support sustainable farming practices to protect soil and water.

  • Bolster disaster relief for farmers when federal programs fall short

  • Champion beginning and small farmers

  • Advocate for farmer’s markets and their role in providing local food sovereignty

As a farmer advocate, she helped farmers apply for FSA loans, navigate federal disaster assistance programs, and operated a farmer crisis hotline in addition to working on federal-level agriculture policy. As Assistant Director of Plenty! Farm and Food Bank, she ran the Floyd County school garden program, and managed a community-based organization growing and distributing fresh produce to folks in need.
